How Groups Work
Initial Evaluation
When you join a group, your group fitness coach will reach out to you to schedule an initial evaluation. In your phone settings, be sure to allow notifications from the “Fitropolis” app as this will allow you to be notified when contacted. The evaluation will help the instructor to understand your health and fitness goals. This is important as it will allow the instructor to tailor the fitness program to your specific fitness needs and goals.
Daily Fitness Challenges (Workouts)
Every day, by the time you wake up, you will have been notified of a new fitness challenge waiting to be completed by you. These challenges are usually about 45 minutes long. For the best and quickest results, you are encouraged to complete a challenge at least 4 days in a week. If you would like to schedule real-time workout sessions with the coach over video conference (at no extra cost), reach out to the coach by sending a direct message (DM) on the app.
Marking Workouts “Complete”: Once you complete a workout challenge, you should mark it as “Complete”. Mark a workout complete by clicking the checkmark (✔) on the group page. This helps you track your consistency and progress towards your fitness goals. It will also alert other group members that you’ve completed your challenge for the day, hopefully motivating them to do the same.
To view your workout consistency over time, go to your profile by selecting the “Me” tab at the bottom of the screen. Select the “Streak Chart” option. The streak chart highlights all the days you completed workouts on a calendar.
For each day you mark a workout as complete, you earn 5 additional points for “Consistency” on the group leaderboard.
Workout Highlights
A workout highlight is a photo or short video (less than 30 seconds) that shows you completed the challenge for the day. It can be anything from a short clip of yourself completing the day’s challenge to a screenshot of your smart watch showing your workout stats. Workout highlights are a great way to track and share your progress and consistency. They are also a huge source of motivation to yourself and others in your group. You can post a workout highlight by clicking on the plus (➕) sign on the group page.
Workout highlights can be commented on and “Liked” by others. Note that the first comment you add to your workout highlight becomes the caption of the workout.
Workout highlights allow you to earn 5 additional points for “Group Participation” on the group leaderboard. While you can post as many highlights as desired in a single day, you can only earn a maximum of 5 points from workout highlights for each day posted.
Group Messaging: Use the group message forum to interact with other group members and surround yourself with positive energy throughout the day. It is a great way to talk about your workouts, share your progress and send motivational messages to group other members. Group forums are designed to be safe and secure for all users. Please report any abusive content by pressing down on the message and selecting “Report message”. Like with posting highlights, sending group messages can allow you to earn a maximum of 5 additional points for “Group Participation” on the group leaderboard.
Progress Timeline
You can maintain a video or picture timeline of your fitness progress using the “Progress Timeline” feature. In addition to pictures and videos, progress timeline posts allow you to indicate your measurables (weight, waist and body fat) at the time the picture or video was taken. Note that progress timeline posts are not shared and are visible to you alone. To create a progress timeline post, navigate to your profile by clicking on the “Me” tab at the bottom of the screen. Select the “Progress Timeline” option and click the “Create a Progress Post” button.
When you create a progress timeline post that indicates a loss in weight from the previous post, you automatically earn points for “Weight Loss” on the group leaderboard. If you are subscribed to multiple groups, the weight loss points will be applied to the leaderboards for all those groups. A point is earned for each pound lost. Note again that your actual measurables are not shared and are only visible to you. Only reductions in weight (“pounds losts”) are indicated on the leaderboard when they occur.
